California 168 crosses Westgard Pass via this narrow one-lane segment. Although it does not seem like it, this picture was taken mid-morning, not at twilight. The area looks dark because the sunlight did not reach this narrow chasm on this winter morning. Motorists just have to hope no one is coming, based on these blind curves.
Thanks for the tip AAA. I think my next ten posts are going to be about this little stretch of highway. Whoever designed and laid out that road deserves to be both severely reprimanded and commended for this atrocity/treasure of asphalt adventuring.
And these photos anf our litte short video don’t even begin to get at how amazing and treachorous the whole thing was (try this one). That video was from an uphill and evidently minor grade (compared to those later on). Wish we had the nerves to focus enough to take a vid of our descent down (did that sign really say 9% grade over the next 8 miles?!!??!), but I think I spent every ounce of energy I had praying and ensuring that this twenty year old Corolla, loaded with all of Salad’s worldly possessions and three souls aboard, wouldn’t spin off the road and kill us all.
Adventures :)
